Lecturer of English Education, one (1) position.

4.Responsibilities

(1)The teaching of general English classes and other required classes, approximately ten 90-minute-classes per week.

(2)Duties related to developing relationships with partner schools overseas.

(3)Other duties as designated by the Director of the Institute (including those to support the internationalization of USP).

5.Qualifications

(1)Applicants should have sufficient Japanese ability to read school documents and participate fully in administrative meetings.

(2)Applicants should have a master's or doctoral degree.

(3)Applicants should possess at least one year of prior experience teaching (either full-time or part-time) at a university in Japan.

(4)Applicants should have interest in cultivating and maintaining relationships with our partner schools overseas, especially those in English speaking societies.

(5)Applicants should have enthusiasm for teaching, conducting research, and contributing to the local community.

(6)Applicants should be willing to be involved in administrative duties.

(7)Applicants should be willing to live in or near Shiga Prefecture.

6.Starting date

April 1, 2021.

7.Employment conditions (working hours and salary)

The discretionary work system for professional work applies, and one working day will be calculated as 7 hours and 45 minutes.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in health, pension, and unemployment insurance.

8.Terms of employment

Full-time, tenured position (mandatory retirement age of 65).

9.Application materials

All documents listed below must be submitted in either paper or digital version. The digital version should be submitted as a single PDF file.

(1) curriculum vitae (26.0 KB) (in either English or Japanese) with photo attached, done in the format designated by USP.

(2)A list of research publications and achievements (in either English or Japanese).

(3)Reprints (copies acceptable) of three major publications. Single-author publications are preferable; in the case of multiple authors indicate clearly which section(s) were written by the applicant. Each of the three submitted publications should be accompanied by an English abstract of approximately 300 words in length.

(4)An essay (in English) which outlines your activities in English education thus far and discusses your aspirations for the current position. The essay should be approximately 1,000 words in length and can be formatted freely.

(5)An essay (in English) which outlines your experience in international student exchange programs and/or your views on developing relationships with partner schools overseas. The essay should be approximately 1,000 words in length and can be formatted freely.

(6)A copy of the diploma or certificate of completion for highest academic degree obtained.

(7)Copies of the certificates of results on standardized Japanese language proficiency tests (if any).

(8)The names, institutional affiliations, positions, and contact details (telephone numbers and e-mail addresses) of two personal references.

(9)A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the application materials (unnecessary in the case of a digital application).

10.Application period

Applications must arrive no later than December 4, 2020 at 5 p.m.

11. Selection process

(1)First stage: Review of written materials. Candidates invited for an interview will be notified by December 15.
(2)Second stage: Interview (including sample lesson) of applicants who pass the first stage. The interviews will be held on either December 18, or 19. Note that no online interviews are available.
・Please note that transportation costs for interviews will not be reimbursed.
・Additional materials may be requested during the selection process.
