The University of Shiga Prefecture (USP) is located in Hikone City, near Lake Biwa - the largest lake in Japan - and in one of the country's most historically and culturally rich regions. Earn credits in Language and Culture!

The program includes 45 hours of Japanese language course and 11 unique cultural experiences, such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, calligraphy, karate, wearing kimono, and visits to Japanese temples and castles, among others!
* Credits awarded 3 credits for 4-week.
Requirements
Participants must be enrolled at our partner universities in the US.
* This program is aimed at those who are completely new to studying Japanese language. Those with experience studying Japanese may be required to audit Japanese classes without receiving credits.

Monthly Study Schedule
Participation Fee for 2026 : JPY 100,000 (Approx. USD 666.67*)
Participation fee covers tuition, activity fees, teaching materials, room rent, utilities and internet access at the accommodation.
* Airfare, meals, commuting expenses and other personal costs are NOT included.
* USD exchange rates as of October 20th, 2025.
Housing
USP offers four options for off-campus apartments with furnished private room. However, space is limited, and room assignments will be made by USP based on availability.
North Village, Kitakyuso and Sunny Hill Mistukoshi are shared with exchange students from other partner universities, providing you with opportunities to interact and connect with them during your stay. For more details, please visit our webpage below:
Accommodation For Exchange Student
Leopalace offers one-room monthly apartment where you will live alone. Although it is located slightly farther from the university compared to the other options, you can easily commute by bicycle or bus.
Please note that none of the apartments provide meal services. However, you can cook on your own at the rooms or eat out.

Pick-up Service
USP provides pick-up service at the Kansai International Airport (KIX) on the arrival day - on June 18.
There is no shuttle service when the students leave, so they will need to make their own way to the airport from Hikone station.
